UICF2019 with Stewart Lee’s favourite comedyshow and best newcomer in UK comedy

The definitive line-up for the Utrecht International Comedy Festival (UICF) has been put together. And thanks to this festival 8 and 9 March will feature the best, funniest, weirdest, most thought-provoking comedy shows in the world in TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Tickets are less than 40 euro and with one ticket you can see 6/7/8/9 shows in one night. (We wouldn’t recommend seeing 9, but it’s possible!)

Definitely don’t miss the show by Irish absurdist Paul Currie who was the hit of last year’s festival and who returns to play a different show: Re-release the Baboons. An exciting hour of stand-up comedy that verges on mime and clownery that English comedy legend Stewart Lee named ‘my favourite comedy show of the Fringe’. Essential viewing!

Also present: British working class hero Dave Johns who will regale audience with his remarkable life story. Johns had been working as a stand-up comedian for more than 30 years when he became world famous as the lead actor in the Palme d’Or-winning movie I, Daniel Blake. So all of a sudden this underground comedy legend found himself hobknobbing with Steven Spielberg and Juliette Binoche. A remarkable, and funny, story!

Lauren Pattison was a guest of the Utrecht International Comedy Festival a couple of years ago and she was already great then. But her career has really taken flight since then and we couldn’t be prouder. Following a whirlwind year of awards, nominations and sold-out shows on top of a run at Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Lastminute.com Best Newcomer nominee 2017 Lauren Pattison is back with her brand new hour. Come see her deliver some new home truths with her wicked, warm and authentic brand of humour.

John Robertson is a highly talented comedian but we’re flying him to the Utrecht International Comedy Festival for one specific show: The Dark Room. In this hilarious interactive escape room the audience is ‘trapped’ inside of a dark room and has to get out by choosing a path full of dangers. The winners gets money. The losers…. DIE [cue horror movie laugh]! Come discover why this real-life computer game was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe. It’s like the Black Mirror-episode of Bandersnatch but with a cavalcade of good jokes!

There’s also political comedy by Kae Kurd, humour straight from the Nigerian/Jamaican diaspora by Babatunde Aléshé and Canadian Chris Betts who will try to defend the indefensible. Check out all comedians here. We’ve also got a special showcase in cooperation with StandUpEurope.org to showcase comedians from all over Europe as part of our F*ck Brexit-showcase.

There’s also tons of great Dutch comedians. But as you’re reading this in English we’ll assume they’re not as interesting to you.

The UICF is the biggest comedy-festival of The Netherlands and Belgium, and has even been noticed in New York. Vulture, the culture segment of NY Mag, put the UICF in its list of the top 9 comedy festivals in the world.

So if you like your comedy in English, this is your festival as the UICF will make sure you can see a lot of English shows in one night. And not only will the UICF take care of you artistically. We will also keep you well-fed as one of the highlights of the last couple of years was the magnificent food street on the festival square. Here people could grab a delicious bite to eat and drink a refreshing cocktail whilst preparing for a night full of laughs.

So make sure you block 8 and 9 March in your calendar, follow our Facebook-page for updates and…. get your tickets now now now!
