About this event

On April 1 it will be exactly 20 years ago that the Netherlands was the first country in the world to open civil marriage to people of the same sex. Job Cohen officiated the first marriage between two men that day in Amsterdam. The Utrecht International Comedy Festival in the Netherlands is celebrating this with an online stand-up comedy show featuring LGBTQ+ comedians from all over the world.

British comedian James Johnson hosts the night from the festival studio in Utrecht. Navin Noronha (India), Mikaela Burch (US), Eugene Mathews (South Africa) and Jeffrey Jay (US) perform from their home countries.

“It is unique to have these people together in one show.” says our own Edo Berger. ‘Moreover, they are all performers who discuss their sexuality on stage and that is not self-evident for everyone. Eugene Mathews, for isntance, is one of only a handful of openly gay black comedians in his country. ‘
